What we do
The Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, in San Andrés, Providencia and the Serrana, Serranilla and Roncador cays, is the most important nesting area in the Colombian Caribbean for hawksbill, loggerhead and green turtles.
With the Colombian Navy’s Marine Infantry Battalion No. 11 we created the Blue Turtle Sanctuary: marines trained to run standardized monitoring protocols on the cays. Our scientific director leads this scientific work with the Navy.
We are also part of Fi Wi Riif, Kriol for “Our Reef”: because caring for turtles means caring for the reef that feeds them and the culture that names them.
