Chocó Pacific

Home to El Valle, the most important olive ridley nesting beach in South America, where communities have become guardians of the nests.

What we do

El Valle, in Bahía Solano, is the most important olive ridley nesting beach in South America. Here and in Juná, Mecana and Nuquí we work with the communities that wait for the olive ridleys every season and look after their nests.

In December 2024, after our first intensive community workshop, the Mecana community messaged us on WhatsApp: 142 olive ridley hatchlings had reached the sea. There is no better news than the news shared by the people who made it happen. In Termales, Nuquí, 50 children became turtle guardians.

In Arusí, together with Madreagua, we run Viajes ConSentido, community-based scientific ecotourism that leaves value in the territory. In Nuquí we also offer a certified course on marine mammals and sea turtles.
