Bobalito, the largest hawksbill nesting area on the continental Caribbean, and La Playona, the leatherback sanctuary.

What we do

On Bobalito beach, in Necoclí, we work with the community’s turtle guardians. It is the largest hawksbill nesting area on the continental Caribbean, yet it has no more than about 60 nests per season: every nest counts.

Further south, in Acandí, lies La Playona, the leatherback sanctuary, cared for by the COCOMASUR community. It was there, with the leatherbacks and with COCOMASUR, that our scientific director sealed her decision and life mission nearly 20 years ago.

Going back to La Playona is going back to the beginning: to the certainty that conservation only works when the people of the territory feel it is theirs.
